| SMART STUFF | ARCHIVE | TOOLS |..<.....8..9..10..11..12.....> Welcome to the Smart Stuff tools section with some of the world's smartest gadgets, inventions and ideas for toolbox and workshop. ![]() Roller handle with built in paint supply. They have made a roller handle that can be filled with paint. How you fill the handle, and how you feed the paint to the roller is not explained. And we have studied the B&D page left and right. Not to mention how you are supposed to clean the handle afterwards. There is no price for the contraption, either, and if today was April 1st, we would not have touched it with a six foot stick. But the idea strikes us somehow, so we'll keep an eye on it and see what develops. From Black & Decker and USD 19:- on Amazon. Via Uncrate. 19 April 2006 ![]() Multi-multi pen. We are pretty easily thrilled by multi function stuff of all kinds. The combining of different functions in one package is like a puzzle of sorts. So, when we were looking over the garlic crusher at MoMA yesterday, we naturally took the opportunity to see what else they had to offer. Among other stuff, we found this multi-multi pen by Adrian Olabuenaga. It is packed with features; an ordinary ball point pen, an orange ball point high-lighter, a 0,7 lead pencil, a stylus for PDA's, and rulers with both centimeter and inch scales. All this for just USD 40:- at the MoMA web shop. 15 April 2006 ![]() Kärcher power drill vacuum. Our good friend Monica F. mails a link to a product we have actually been missing all these years, but never gotten round to inventing ;-). Now Kärcher have done it instead. What it is? Well, it is a dust collector for your power drill. Perfect for everyone who has complained over the piles of dust that appear after the slightest drilling in the home. Now, you can forget about that. You just attach the DD-50 via vacuum to the wall and drill through the hole on top. The dust is collected in the container below. Battery powered. The price is SEK 240:- (approx. USD 31:-) at Fredells, for instance. Not cheap, but brilliant anyway. Winner of a Red Dot Award. Thanks, Monica, for the mail! 28 March 2006 ![]() The 20 most important tools ever? Forbes Magazine has made a list of the 20 most important tools through history. Here we find everything from the knife (numero uno), via the saw (ranked number 10), to the chisel (number 20). One invention is conspicuous in it's absense, and that is the wheel, but maybe the wheel is not to be regarded as a tool in this sense. We would have put it among the top five, but we realize that making a list like this is a thankless task and easily critiqued. It is interesting, nevertheless, and well worth a read. Here it is: ..1. The Knife ..2. The Abacus ..3. The Compass ..4. The Pencil ..5. The Harness ..6. The Scythe ..7. The Rifle ..8. The Sword ..9. Eyeglasses 10. The Saw 11. The Watch 12. The Lathe 13. The Needle 14. The Candle 15. The Scale 16. The Pot 17. The Telescope 18. The Level 19. The Fish Hook 20. The Chisel We are not sure if we agree on every item on the the list, but it is easy to be critical after the work is done. It would be interesting to see if you and our other readers agree that the knife is the most important tool in history, or if you have some other suggestion. Use the Forbes list as a starting point and mail us your vote or nomination! If all our readers votes, we know we will have a bigger turnout than Forbes' 3,000. That would be something, don't you think? Please mail today! /Ed. 23 March 2006 ![]() Work glove with built-in light. Working with small stuff in the dark is not exactly how we would choose to spend an evening, but every once in a while you do not have a choice. In those instances, this workglove; the Craftsman Illum-A-Glove with a built-in LED light could be just the thing. The light is placed between the thumb and forefinger to provide light just at the pinch of your grip. Expect to pay around USD 20:-.
