Jeroen Verbrugge paint can

Paint packaging with built-in roller tray.
Dutch designer Jeroen Verbrugge at Delft design firm Flex/the InnovationLab was doing some painting at home. The actual rolling was fun, he thought, but filling the roller tray with paint and cleaning up the mess afterwards, was hell. He decided to try and find a better way. After a lot of experimenting he could file a patent for this clever invention. The lid of the paint container has two parts where one can be folded up to form a roller tray. After finishing you just close the lid. No cleaning necessary (except the roller itself, of course). The design was rewarded with a Design Distinction in ID Magazine's 51st Annual Design Review.

Z Corp 3D printer Z Corp 3D printer

3D printer.
It is kind of hard to actually believe, but it seems to be true. There is a printer that prints models and prototypes in 3-D (se the picture of the engine block above left). The 3 dimensional printer supports CAD drawings and must really be a designer's ultimate wet dream. The technology is supposed to be similar to that used in everyday laser printers, with the added feature of several layers (of course) and some kind of adhesive to keep the powder together. Inventors American Z Corporation have several models in different price ranges. The least expensive is USD 25.000:- (ca SEK 185.000:-). Not exactly pocket change, but even a small design firm could at least lease one just like one leases color printers from Canon. Considering the amount of service color printers need, the leasing option seems to be the only viable. Some large companies that do a lot of research and product development; Sony, Adidas, Canon, Harley Davidson, BMW, Porsche, Ford, DaimlerChrysler and others, have already gotten these printers. We do not know if there are any of them in Sweden, but boy, would we like to test drive one of these! Via Gizmag.

Paint Buddy pain storage

Paint storage with built-in roller.
This is the Paint Buddy and it is a clever storage device for paint with a small roller built in. The same principle as the common ball point pen. Why no-one has thought of this before is beyond us, but here it is. The idea is you keep the left-over paint from your re-decorating job in the Paint Buddy until you need to do some touching up. The bottle is air tight and the roller replaceable. Made by Shur-Line, a Newell Rubbermaid company, it is sold through home stores and on the net. For instance it's USD 9:29 on Amazon. Light My Fire plastic pic-nic cutlery
Is it a sporkni, a fornispo or maybe a knifospo?
From those wonderful people who brought us the Swedish FireSteel, the fire maker originally developed for the Swedish Army, here is a new development. It is a sporkni, fornispo or maybe a knifospo. I any case it is a combo fork, spoon and knife made for camping and outdoor living, made in plastic and available in several different colors We got it at the shop at Svensk Form (the Swedish Design Ass'n) the other day, but this product is not available at Light My Fire's web page yet. It was SEK 20:- (USD 2:50).
