| SMART STUFF | ARCHIVE | TOOLS |..<.....3..4..5..6..7.....> Welcome to the Smart Stuff tools section with some of the world's smartest gadgets, inventions and ideas for toolbox and workshop. ![]() Ten-in-one mini combination tool. We just love these weird looking clever little mini combo tools. We have bought plenty of them over the years. We have also lost several, but that does not seem to stop us from buying more. This little cool tool is not (yet) part of our toolbox, but we must admit it is quite attractive. From a piece of stainless steel they have managed to squeeze in 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, and 17 mm fixed wrenches plus a flat screw driver, a phillips #2, a spark plug gap gauge and (of course) a bottle opener. It is called QuickFix and you can get yours from Aerostich for USD 14:-. 10 July 2005 ![]() Picnic toolkit. Do not know if this thing is new or not, but we like it anyway. We like the fact that this pic-nic toolkit has got a fork, spoon, knife, corkscrew, can-opener and spike. And we like that it is made of stainless steel, with the handle brushed. It is probably not a light-weight, but it looks really serious. From Leopold. 8 July 2005 ![]() Why not sharpen candles, when you do it to pencils? Candles have, at least in our experience, an irritating habit of seldom or never being the right size to fit the candle holder you want to use. How this can be, we do not know, but maybe it has something to do with Parkinson (and we do not mean that Brit talk show host), but at last we have found a solution, at least in part. The part where the candle holder in question is too small, that is. Enter the candle sharpener AKA the candle shaper. It works just like the old fashioned pencil sharpener. Push the end of the candle into the conical piece, the cone into the cylinder and twist the candle a couple of times. And presto! A new, smaller candle-butt. Try the candle in the candlestick, and if it still will not fit, repeat until it does. Smart, in our humble opinion. And simple. And cheap, too. Just what makes smart stuff. We got it at Verdus Antik & Trädgård (Verdus Antiques & Gardening) in Hablingbo, Gotland just last week. PS. This is the candle related post we promised you on June 29th, but have not gotten around to photograph and post until now. Please forgive. DS. 5 July 2005. ![]() Battery free dynamo flashlight. Everybody and every home should have an emergency flashlight in case of at power outage or other unforeseen event where a little illumination would be helpful. The best flashlights, in this respect at least, are in our humble opinion the dynamo driven ones, i.e the ones that do not need batteries. We think other people are like us, and keep forgetting the batteries. This flashlight comes from Swedish Homeshop where it's SEK 98:50 (approx. USD 13:-), but there are plenty of other lights out there. 11 June 2005 ![]() The smart tool belt. These belts are really made for snowboarders, but us ordinary folks can find them useful, too. Hidden in the belt you will find a set of cleverly integrated tools; a bottle opener (gotta have one) a #2 phillips- and a #2 flat screwdriver, 8, 10 and 11 mm wrenches and a measuring scale. Available in black or brown leather from 686, who also offer cool clothes for snowboarding, skiing or other snow activities.
