Welcome to the Smart Stuff tools section with some of the world's smartest gadgets, inventions and ideas for toolbox and workshop.

Braked wheel barrow.
This wheelbarrow has to, as far as we can see, pretty unique characteristics and we have given the first one away in the headline. It has a hand brake. This is the first time we have ever seen a wheelbarrow with a brake, but we can see the benefits. The brake will help you keep the, possibly heavy, load under control in a downhill and it will also serve as a parking brake since it is lockable. The other, equally unique property, is the name. Those with keen eyesight have probably already spotted the little yellow sticker. For the rest of you; the barrows name is
Jeep, which was news for us. On closer scrutiny, we find that the wheelbarrows are not actually manufactured by Jeep, but the name is used under license. But anyway, don't you agree that it would be kind of cool to park this wheelbarrow on the driveway next to the Wrangler? [Via]

Hacksaw trick

Why, oh why, did I not think of this?
Some ideas and solutions to common problems are so brilliantly obvious (after you've seen it) that all you can do is blushingly admit that you did not think of it. I'm sure you have experienced that after a bit of working, there is not enough room between the hacksaw frame and the blade. And I'm sure you have worked around it somehow to get the job done. But did you think of this? If you did, we can only congratulate you, 'cause that makes you smarter than we are.

Opener for paint cans and beer bottles
Paint can opener and beer bottle opener all in one.
We got this little tool when we bought some paint a while back. It is a pretty smart tool for opening tin paint cans without ruining the edge of the lid. Something that happens to us a lot when we try to pry them open with a knife or screwdriver. The extra feature of a beer bottle opener was not lost on us, and we hope you will appreciate it, too. We know that US beer bottles have twist-off caps, but ours do not, so for us it is a pretty handy tool.

Niteize Figure 9 no knots rope tightener
No knots rope tightener.
This clever little gadget can be used to tighten and lock ropes, for instance around luggage or other stuff on the roof of your car or on a trailer. It is supposed to be good for tent ropes, too. When we need to carry stuff on the roof of a car or in a small trailer, we usually use a kind of cargo straps with their own tightener. They seem safer than ropes and we think they can be tightened harder. But of course there are occasions when ropes are best, and for those instances this rope tightener can come in handy. The Niteize Figure 9 Rope Tightener is available in two sizes; one small with 50 lb. capacity for USD 2:- and one large with 150 lb. capacity for USD 7:- including 10 ft. of rope. Lifesaver Seatbelt Cutter
Seat belt cutter.
We're pretty sure that the emergency services and the police all have some kind of emergency tool in their vehicles to get you out of your seat belt should the need arise. Now, their tools are surely a lot more professional than this seat belt cutter, but this on the other hand probably a lot cheaper. And besides, it could not hurt you to get out of your possibly crippled car on your own and not have to wait for anytown's finest. In such a case this seat belt tool could prove to be a cheap life saver to keep in the car. It even has a Velcro fastener to attach it somewhere within reach. USD 5:50 on the EMT Catalog web shop.
