| SMART STUFF | ARCHIVE | TOOLS |..<.....10..11..12..13..14.....> Welcome to the Smart Stuff tools section with some of the world's smartest gadgets, inventions and ideas for toolbox and workshop. ![]() Multi opener. The people who make and sell this multi-opener thinks there should be one in every home. Sales pitch aside, there is something to this claim. The Multi Opener can help you open no less than six different packaging seals, lids or tops. You can see them in the picture above, (clockwise from top), seal on bottles, PET bottle tops, cans with a pull back ring, bottle lids, ordinary beer bottles, and plastic bags like the ones with potato chips, for instance. From Progressive International. Among other places available on Amazon where it is USD 7:-. The Multi Opener got an honorary mention in the ID Magazine design round-up for 2006. 25 July 2006 ![]() Hook on tool hanger. If you have a garage or garden shed with reasonably dimensioned rafters (looks like a 2x4 in the picture) you can hang your bike, tools and other stuff from the rafters without having to drill one hole or screwing one single screw. The answer is called Lumb-R-Grip and it is a clever hook that attaches itself to the rafter and that sticks harder the heavier the stuff you hang on it. If there are versions available for bigger rafters, we do not know, but these are USD 12:- for four on Amazon. 22 July 2006 ...![]() A helping hand - the drywall holder. Sometimes an extra hand is good to have around. Come to think of it, that applies to a lot of the time. One such occasion is when you are about to fit some new drywall sheets to your ceiling. To be nine feet tall and have four hands would be nice for that job, but since we are not going to achieve either of that, we will have to look for outside help. If you do not have a nice neighbor, brother or spouse on hand to lend a hand, you might find this invention helpful. It is called Free Hands, and it is simply a piece of plastic that you screw into the finished part of the ceiling and then slide the next sheet onto to keep it in place while you fasten it. Smart, and USD 22:50 for three on Amazon. Via Cool Tools. 21 July 2006 ![]() Two wheeled wheelbarrow. Call it ignorance, or whatever you like, but we had never seen one of these before. But it strikes us as a pretty good idea, since the extra wheel will give it extra stability. Good for people who do not have strong arms and hands. We found it on Canadian Tire and it was CAD 100:- (about USD 90:-). 5 July 2006 ![]() Bike repair kit in a "water bottle". We are pretty easily excited when it comes to fun tool kits like this one. They do not even have to be disguised as something else, like this one is, but that just makes it more fun. Here you will fins most, if not all you need for a quick on the road repair; bit screw driver handle, 6 bits, 6/15-mm ball wrench, 3 hex wrenches, 2 tyre irons and a flat repair kit with glue. The bits are stored under the lid and the rest of the stuff is inside the "bottle". It can be put into an ordinary water bottle holder, and you could use the included special fastening bracket. with a thing like this, maybe, maybe we could avoid having our tools stolen. From Lillian Vernon web-shop where it is USD 20:-. Via Boing Boing.
