Magnetic flashlight for when you need both hands.
It attaches to any and every ferrous surface and gives you the chance to get in there with both hands. You will even get out of the light-in-mouth thing to get into the most inaccessible places. The light comes from a LED and the power from four 1,5 V batteries. We have seen it at X-trem Geek at USD 14:95 and at EFX for GBP 4:65. Available in black or alu.

Letter opener and letter scale all in one.
The letter opener/scales called Epistola by Teo Enlund has been in the shops for a while, but we still want to share it with those that have not yet seen it. "Well, how does it work", I hear you ask. OK, the letter opener is pretty basic, but the letter scale is smart. You stick your letter into the curved slot at the end, and then a pencil through one of the holes. If the thing balances, you have found the correct weight. If not, reposition pencil. The Epistola has been awarded the Utmärkt Svensk Form prize as well as the German design award Design Plus. We have seen it live at Designtorget and virtually at Designbutiken.

Good to know around the house.
How do you grind with toothpaste? How do you sharpen scissors? How do you get a thin low voltage cable through the wall? These and more than three hundred other practical tips, clever tricks and plenty of smart how-to's are gathered in these two books; "Mekartips del 1 och 2" and "Mekartips del 3" by Göran Lundström, (among other things journalist, engineer and writer of children's books) with illustrations by Regina Ponsell. We got ours at Sifverts, but they are available through booksellers or from the author himself via the link below. The books are SEK 65:- (USD 8:30) a piece and in Swedish of course. If Sifvert's doesn't have it, it probably doesn't exist.
At one time or another we have probably all been looking for this particular bolt. Or needed to replace a nut on an ancient boat engine. An insolvable problem unless you happen to know of a skilled blacksmith or toolmaker. Not at all. Salvation is closer than that, at least if you live in Stockholm. The Sifvert store at Lindhagensgatan 53 stock most everything you can imagine in screws, nuts and bolts. And then some, just as it's fitting for a firm with a long tradition. Four generations of the Sifvert family have been running this business since Axel Wilhelm Sifvert opened the doors for the first time in 1861, 144 years ago. Sifvert.

Soft closing cupboards on a budget.
Would you like to have soft closing doors on your kitchen cupboards, but are hesitant to shell out for an entirely new kitchen? Then we have an idea for you. This little shock absorber from Blum is the gadget your kitchen salesman will be reluctant to tell you about. (Well, face it, he would rather sell you a brand new kitchen) This thing mounts in several ways. We chose to drill a 10 mm Ø hole in the frame of the cupboard, but you can always use one of the available adaptors that fit the pre drilled holes in most modern kitchen cupboards. They are about SEK 30:- (USD 3:80) each and available both from Clas Ohlson and Theofil's.

Portable desktop.
This aluminum box is the same type of box that the Highway Patrol use to keep their ticket forms in. Only larger. This one has room enough for a stack of A4 size papers and some pens. It also sports a smart clip to keep current papers in place. Great for people on the go. Or to keep paperwork for a certain project. Found at Staples in L.A. for USD 39:90, but now we know they're also on Amazon for USD 24,00. Staples.
