SMART STUFF | ARCHIVE | SWEDISH |..1..2..3..4..5.....>
Welcome to the Smart Stuff Swedish section with smart gadgets, inventions and ideas by Swedish people. Below, and on the other pages, you'll find our constantly updated archive of the world's smartest Swedish inventions. ![]() Technical tips and tricks around the house. How do you grind with toothpaste? How do you sharpen a pair of scissors? How do you get a thin low voltage cable through the wall? These and more than three hundred other practical tips, clever tricks and plenty of smart how-to' are gathered in these two books; "Mekartips del 1 och 2" and "Mekartips del 3" by Göran Lundström, (among other things journalist, engineer and writer of children's books) with illustrations by Regina Ponsell. We got our copies at Sifverts, but they're available through booksellers or from the author himself via the link below. The books are SEK 65:- a piece and in Swedish of course. Del 1 and 2: ISBN: 91-973675-0-8 Del 3: ISBN: 91-973675-1-6 9 April 2005 ![]() If Sifvert does not have it, it probably does not exist. At one time or another we have probably all been looking for this particular bolt. Or needed to replace a nut on an ancient boat engine. An insolvable problem unless you happen to know of a skilled blacksmith or toolmaker. Not at all. Salvation is closer than that, at least if you live in Stockholm. Sifvert's at Lindhagensgatan 53 will most likely save the day. This store have everything you can imagine in screws, nuts and bolts. And then some. Four generations of the Sifvert family have been running this business since Axel Wilhelm Sifvert opened the doors for the first time in 1861, 144 years ago. 6 April 2005 ![]() Old newspaper collection box. Most of us with at least a minimal sense of environmental protection will most likely have a pile of old newspapers in the kitchen or by the door. This is neither practical nor does it improve the look of your home sweet home. Now there is a somewhat stylish way to correct this, by Swedish designer Carina Ahlburg. Her cardboard container (above) is perfectly sized to take a normal Swedish paper grocery bag. In this bag you place your old newspapers when you are through reading them. When the bag is full, you take it to your neighborhood recycling center and replace it with another. No more ugly pile of newspapers. Just a stylish container. Eureka! Available at Swedish design store Designtorget. 3 April 2005 ![]() Tips and tricks around the house. Why put garlic in your plant pots? How do you get rid of the smell of tobacco smoke in your living room? These and many other questions get answered in these two books; "Goda råd är inte dyra" and "Goda råd i rättan tid", both by Nina Yunkers. Both books are filled to the brim with grandmother's tips on everything that makes fun parties, efficient house cleaning, a nicer garden, easier travel and your food taste better. These books have had a place within easy reach in our home ever since they were published. They have some dog ears and stains by now, and we cannot remember how much they were any longer, but they have been worth every penny. Writing this, we realize we are writing in English and the books are in Swedish. But maybe you know someone who can translate? "Goda råd..." av Nina Yunkers Norstedts Publishing Company 1996 and 1997 respectively. ISBN 91-1-962702-5 and 91-1-970812-2 respectively. 17 March 2005 ![]() Cooling dome protects and cools. It is called Cool Globe, and we think it is, too. Inside the top of the dome there is room for one of these freezable plastic bricks you use in cooler bags. And since colder air tends to sink in relation to warmer air, your salad, cake or whatever is under the dome will be kept cool and fresh. Inventor Birgitta Folcker-Sundell received the City of Stockholm Inventor Scholarship for the Cool Globe as well as plenty of well earned attention both domestic and foreign. 8 March 2005 THIS SECTION HAS MORE PAGES |..1..2..3..4..5.....> DEPARTMENTS | APPAREL | APPLIANCES | BAR | BBQ | BICYCLE | CAR | CHILDREN | COMPUTERS/TELECOM | CULTURE | DVD | EDIBLES | ENVIRONMENT | FLASHLIGHTS/TORCHES | FOOTWEAR | GARDEN | HOME | INTERNET | INVENTIONS A-Z | KITCHEN | KITCHEN FURNITURE | LEISURE | LINKS | META | MISC. | MOTOR CYCLES | OUTDOORS | PETS | PERSONAL CARE | PHOTOGRAPHY | READER'S CHOICE | SAFETY AND SECURITY | SERVICES | SMART STUFF aSTORE | SOLAR POWER | SOUND AND MUSIC | SWEDISH | THIRD WORLD | TRAVEL | TOOLS | VIDEO | WATER | WORK TIPS AND TRICKS | APPAREL | BAR AND DRINKS | BICYCLE | CAR AND DRIVING | COMPUTERS | CULTURE AND LEARNING | GARDENING | HOME | INTERNET | KITCHEN AND COOKING | OUTDOORS | PETS | TRAVEL | WORK AND BUSINESS Did you find the information on this site useful?
