Welcome to the Smart Stuff travel section with some of the world's smartest gadgets, inventions and ideas for travel and holidays. Also browse the useful tips and tricks page for some clever and useful ideas.

Siegler & Co travel sock with hidden stash

Travel socks with hidden pocket.

The sock seems to be for real, and it is perhaps too clever to make fun of. Just do not let anyone see you when you reach for your plastic. Okay, the sock has a small zippered hidden stash
where you can keep small stuff that you want not found. We do not think it will fool the pro's, but it might deceive the give-me-your-wallet-in-a-hurry-junkie-amateurs. Via Red Ferret. The socks are available in sizes M and L with Siegler & Co at USD 14:95 (ca SEK 110:-) a pair.

Travel hanger from Resklar

Travel hanger.

Hang your jacket, hang the lantern, hang your bag. There is always stuff that works better hanging than thrown on the ground. So if you are camping or just traveling you might find this travel hanger useful. Made of brushed aluminum, it is small and light enough to bring most anywhere. At 2,5 x 40 x 156 mm (0.1 x 1.6 x 6.1 inches) and 20 g (0.7 oz) it will not be a burden. Nor will the prize, really. It is just SEK 89:- (about USD 11:-) at Resklar.

Evap-a-rappa evaporation bike cooler
Evaporation drinks cooler.
This is pure applied science, really. It is all about evaporation and transfer of energy. Do this: 1. Buy a drink. 2. Soak your Evap-a-rappa bag in water. 3. Put bottle in bag. 4. Place bottle + bag somewhere in the air stream. 5. Enjoy a cold drink at your next stop. Every cooling bag has two fastening ears and is available in three sizes; S = 0,5 liter, M = 1 liter, L = 1,5 liter. Fits bikes, motorbikes and (maybe) cars. USD 14:- (ca SEK 98:-) at Aerostich.

Why can't we get zipper bags in Sweden?
The question is justified, since the zippered plastic bags you can pick up at any old grocery store or supermarket in the US, are so smart and so useable. At least the ones we have managed to lay our hands on. We have even tested ours by filling them with water and holding them upside down. No leaks. Our bags are called Hefty, but there are several different brands to choose from. The name is not important here anyway. The important question is why neither of ICA, Vi(vo) or Konsum has managed to find them when it took us all of five minutes at Ralph's...

Dynamo flashlight.
Everybody and every home should have an emergency flashlight in case of at power outage or other unforeseen event where a little illumination would be helpful. The best flashlights, in this respect at least, are in our humble opinion the dynamo driven ones, i.e the ones that do not need batteries. We think other people are like us, and keep forgetting the batteries. This flashlight comes from Swedish Homeshop (see link below) where it's SEK 98:50 (approx. USD 13:-), but there are plenty of other lights out there.
