Measuring spoon and bag clip a-i-o

Measuring spoon and bag clip a-i-o.
The spoon or scoop is used to measure stuff like coffee, tea, sugar, flour or most anything with the right structure. The spoon's bent handle can then be used as a bag closer. This means the scoop is always on hand when you need it. The downside is of course that you have to get more than one scoop-clip or clip-spoon. But on the other hand that is not a downside for designer Jeremiah Tesolin. Photo by Chikako Harada. From Tesolin and Estadieu. Via Design Boom.

Cutting board with a cutaway edge for a plate or tray

Cutting-board with a cutaway edge.
We have posted on smart cutting-boards before. There was the slanted cutting-board that collects juices, and there was the folding cutting board. Here is another smart idea. A cutting-board with a cutaway edge that allows a plate to be placed so close you will not spill the stuff as you transfer it onto the plate. Phillip Stewart's idea is embarrassingly simple and probably not overly expensive in production. Thus an example of what we like to call smart stuff. Via Design Boom.

Disposable underwear by Onederwear
Disposable underwear.
This is a bit tricky. We feel like it would be ecologically insane to use land to grow cotton to make underwear to use once and then throw away. Using stuff more than once would seem to be better under any circumstances. But on the other hand there are situations where you might be justified to use disposable underwear. Perhaps if you are in a hospital. Or, for women, during periods. Then they can of course they can be used to make life easier (and the luggage lighter) when traveling, but this seems to be more of a convenience issue than necessity. Anyway, the disposable underwear for both women and men in a number of styles is available from Onederwear at about USD 8:- for five. Via Travel Gear Blog.

MBT Masai Barefoot Technology shoes
Walk like the Masai.
Remember the Earth Shoes of ancient fame? The shoes that were supposed to improve your posture and help reduce back problems by giving you a more natural gait? If it worked or nor we do not know, but since they are still in the market, they must have done something right. Here is a competitor, that looks just as weird on first glance. The MBT, or Masai Barefoot Technology, shoes have a rounded sole, that is claimed to improve posture and walk, help activate more muscles in your body, and reduce back aches. The shoes, or rather the sole that is the main ingredient here, was designed by a Swiss engineer, Karl Müller, who was inspired by the Masai people of Kenya The Masai are supposed to be free from any back problems, maybe because of their walking barefoot. If these shoes really work, we do not know, but they look interesting enough to try. Maybe we will get a pair of MBT sandals come summer. They do not come cheap, though, at about USD 270:- a pair.
