Café chairs that help protect your belongings

Café chairs that help protect your belongings.
We've touched on the subject before (link under "Related") but here is a new idea to solve the eternal problem; what to do with your jacket, bag or laptop when in a café or restaurant? If you bring your computer you don't want people kicking it around on the floor. Or pinch it. If you're a girl and uses a handbag or tote you want to keep it in sight. If you hang your jacket over the chair it might brush against a dirty floor. Or you'll get your pockets picked. Here are three ideas for chairs and one for a table with places for guests to safely put their stuff. The ones that would possibly work best are (imho) the table and the chairs with with space for bags and totes. The one that looks the very best is the one for laptop bags where you even get a built-in bonus armrest. The one with the "backpack" (middle) offers very little in the way of a backrest, and the one with the "coat hanger" (left) could make the entire café look like one big cloakroom. All coats and no people. Design and great idea by Kaman Tung. [Via]

The noble art of hiding what's ugly but still necessary

The noble art of hiding stuff in plain sight...
A while back we had the pleasure of having sunday dinner at one of the nice rural restaurants close to the small town of Skillinge in the east of Sweden's southernmost province; Skåne. As this is not a food blog, we won't go further into the culinary aspects here (but we'd recommend it if you asked). Instead we're going to look at a smart feature of the restaurant design. Well, that's what we think anyway. Behind the bar, we noticed this cast iron hatch (picture above). Probably a hatch used by the chimney sweeps in an ancient farm house back in the day. The maître d' noticed our interest in the old hatch, and asked if we could guess what was behind it. Our guesses were all over the place, but none was on the button. What is yours? Take a guess and than trace your cursor over the picture to see what was behind it. An example of how to hide something that's necessary, but does not add much ambience to the décor. We're going to remember this idea!

Dedicated champagne flute sponge
Dedicated champagne flute sponge.
Champagne flutes are special. Partly because we don't use them nearly as often as we should, but also because they are notoriously hard to wash. During the years we have used bottle brushes (a long wire stick with as small ball of bristles at the end), rolled-up dish towels and ordinary sponges combined with a long kitchen tweezer to get the sponge out of the glass once it was cleaned None of them has been optimal, even though the bottle brushes has been the best so far. But after seeing this idea we'd like to try one ourselves. The big question, we think, is whether the sponge is rigid enough to do a good job in the bottom of the glasses. The innovative sponges are USD 9:95 for a pack of two. [Via]
