SMART STUFF | ARCHIVE | PERSONAL CARE |..<.....3..4..5..6..7.....> Welcome to the Smart Stuff personal care section with some of the world's smartest gadgets, inventions and ideas for personal care. Below, and on the other pages, you'll find our constantly updated archive of the world's smartest personal care gadgets and tools. ![]() Sheet soap perfect for travelers. This is actually a soap, or rather fifty soaps in the shape of small paper thin sheets. The idea is you use it as ordinary soap, only one sheet at the time. If you are traveling this means you do not have to carry a wet and sticky soap around after washing. Perfect for the times there is no soap. Available in several different flavors. We got it from the Designtorget shop for SEK 55:- for a box of 50, but they are also available from, among other shops, Beauty of a Site. Here they are USD 6:- (approx. SEK 44:-). 1 May 2006 ![]() Love hamburgers? Read this book and be cured. A couple of years have passed since we read Eric Schlosser's first book; Fast Food Nation, but it seems as current today as it was then. The honest-to-God truth is that this reporter did not eat burgers, chicken nuggets or any junk food for a couple of years after putting Schlosser's book down. We were shaken. The book is a sharp report on fast food; its construction, flavoring, production and marketing and the growth of an industry that has generated huge profits but left customers and society with the tab for an obesity - and diabetes epidemic we have yet to see the full effects of. Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser. A must read. In Schlosser's latest book, Chew on This 25 April 2006 ![]() How to make a bandaid stay on all day. When we posted on the amazing folding technique for making an 8 or 16 sided washcloth, we promised more of the Japanese urawaza short films. Here is one more, it's on how to put on a bandaid so it stays on all day. The technique is simple, cheap and smart. Just as the doctor ordered. See the video on YouTube here (3:10). 21 April 2006 ![]() Travel toothbrush with toothpaste storage. We should have had a couple of these on our trip recently. There are few things as refreshing as a good brushing of the teeth after a long flight. Our last longish flight was with British Airways, and they supplied a small kit with, among other things, toothbrush, toothpaste, earplugs, eyeshades, and a pair of soft socks. This time we flew with Austrian Airlines, and they had nothing like that. With this travel toothbrush, though, you load up the handle with your favorite toothpaste (a bit like filling up an old fashioned fountain pen), put the brush on and click the top shut. When you want to brush, you turn the bottom of the handle to dispense some paste onto the bristles. There is even a little window to let you check the remaining toothpaste level. The Ohso brush is the size of a really fat fountain pen and it will be yours for USD 19:95 plus shipping on Ohso's website. Via Everything and Nothing. 13 April 2006 ![]() Forget the ficus - the Areca palm is a better plant. The potted plant that releases the most moisture into the air is the Areca palm. It releases lots of moisture, absorbs air impurities and will live in a pot in your house. Maybe something for the bedroom, because like most newer buildings, ours is way too dry. In the old days (when we were kids, that is) you could hang pottery jars with water on the radiators and moisturize the indoor air that way. You can't do that now; they do not have that kind of radiators anymore. Now you will have to get an electric moisturizer. We are among the most tech friendly people you can find, but everything is not better in the modern world...
