| SMART STUFF | ARCHIVE | CHILDREN |..<.....2..3..4..5..6.....> Welcome to the Smart Stuff children's section with some of the world's smartest gadgets, inventions and ideas for kids and parents. ![]() Best burn treatment fresh Aloe Vera gel. The most efficient treatment for burns is supposed to be aloe vera gel. Nothing else can heal burns faster, and you can even have your own aloe vera farm at home, since the plant is supposed to be easy to grow indoors. The aloe vera gel is supposed to be fresh and undiluted to be most effective, but we have tried aloe vera gel in a bottle we bought at Boot's, and it seems to us to be effective enough to sooth our sun scorched backs and make it easier to sleep nights. Via Goto Reviews and our own extensive research. 9 March 2006 ![]() Smart crowbar tick remover. We do not know how common this is, but we are among the people hos totally hate ticks. These revolting bugs who suck our blood and infect us with disease. A recent bout with Borrelia has not exactly endeared us to the disgusting critters, either. A good tick tool is a high priority piece of kit with us, and one is standard equipment in our outing kit and bathrooms. We have probably tried all the available tick removers in the market, but we have never found a really good one. The other day we found this, though, and it is one we have not seen before. The two (sold in sets of 2) hooks, reportedly invented by a French veterinarian, are different sizes to work on both small and larger ticks. Recyclable plastic. Tick Twister on Amazon is USD 3:95. Made by O'Tom. Via Cool Tools. 9 February 2006 ![]() ![]() The Benjamin Franklin chair and stepladder. This both smart and elegant chair/stepladder is manufactured after a design from the latter part of the 18th century. It was designed by a man famous for other things but who, being a true renaissance man, excelled in many fields of life. His name was Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) and among other things he discovered that lightning carried a current (which led to the invention of the lightning rod), he designed a much improved iron stove, bifocal glasses, he jointly founded the first hospital in the US, organized the postal service, founded the first volunteer fire company, and the first libraries. The chair/ladder was probably designed for the libraries. Through folding the back forwards, you get a much higher step-stool than the usual ones. And the chair, well you can use it as a chair. Made from hardwood with oak- or white finish, the Franklin library ladder USD 149:- (ca SEK 1.200:-) at, among other places, Stacks and Stacks. Via Everything And Nothing. 23 December 2005 ![]() Finger brushes. These little Fingermax finger things are actually little paint brushes. For kids or adults. The inventors, German design firm Büro für form, Hopf & Wortmann, claims the finger brushes give the wearer the most in both ergonomics and control. If this is true or not, we cannot say. We will have to try them ourselves first. But maybe Hopf & Wortmann have a point. We found them at the University of Delft website on their exhibition on sustainable design, Re-f-use. 26 November 2005 THIS SECTION HAS MORE PAGES |..<.....2..3..4..5..6.....> DEPARTMENTS | APPAREL | APPLIANCES | BAR | BBQ | BICYCLE | CAR | CHILDREN | COMPUTERS/TELECOM | CULTURE | DVD | EDIBLES | ENVIRONMENT | FLASHLIGHTS/TORCHES | FOOTWEAR | GARDEN | HOME | INTERNET | INVENTIONS A-Z | KITCHEN | KITCHEN FURNITURE | LEISURE | LINKS | META | MISC. | MOTOR CYCLES | OUTDOORS | PETS | PERSONAL CARE | PHOTOGRAPHY | READER'S CHOICE | SAFETY AND SECURITY | SERVICES | SMART STUFF aSTORE | SOLAR POWER | SOUND AND MUSIC | SWEDISH | THIRD WORLD | TRAVEL | TOOLS | VIDEO | WATER | WORK TIPS AND TRICKS | APPAREL | BAR AND DRINKS | BICYCLE | CAR AND DRIVING | COMPUTERS | CULTURE AND LEARNING | GARDENING | HOME | INTERNET | KITCHEN AND COOKING | OUTDOORS | PETS | TRAVEL | WORK AND BUSINESS Did you find the information on this site useful?
