Animated Knots by Grog - animated knot instructions

Animated knot tying instructions. Awesome.
The times they are a-changing. Mostly for the better, too. We spent years of our most delicate and sensitive years learning how to light fags without matches and how to tie knots looking at faded copies of not-so-detailed drawings. Now there is this site. With all the knots you have ever heard of (and possibly a few you have not). And all the instructions are animated! Someone has had way too much spare time. Thank God. This can be very useful. Battery free flashlight
Battery free dynamo flashlight.
We have covered this before; electrical gadgets that works without batteries. The latest example is the $ 100 laptop, that might actually change the lives of innumerable kids in developing countries. Other smart stuff that uses similar technology are radios, cellphone chargers, and of course flashlights. If you are going to keep some emergency stuff at home, for instance for power outages, we would suggest that you go with the stuff that generates its own power. Like this flashlight. The principle is almost as old as time (the principle behind the dynamo was discovered by Michael Faraday 1831), but the application is new. Besides, the see-trough skin of this particular lamp makes it a little more fun. Available ready-built or as a kit at USD 12:95 at Lee Valley web shop. Via Unplugged Living.

A.Heat sensitive baby spoons from Munchkin B.Heat sensitive baby spoons from Luv N' Care

Heat sensitive baby spoons.
These are smart spoons for parents who have just started to feed their toddlers solid food. The food is supposed to be warm, but not so hot it burns those sensitive little gums. This might be the solution. The business end of the heat sensitive spoon turns white if the food is too hot. And, no, there is no information on at which temperature this happens. Which is surprising. The spoons come from at least two different manufacturers; the one on the left (A) is from Munchkin and has a suction cup to let you stand it on end. It is USD 4:- for two. The spoons on the right (B) is from Luv N' Care at the same price only here you get three. Via Cool Tools.

Shift training bicycle
Smartest kid's training bike?
It is called Shift and is designed as a training bicycle for kids. It is not only cool looking, it also disposes of those silly looking and embarrassing training wheels and instead have a new and unique design. The twin rear wheels are angled outwards for stability then the bike is stationary, and are pulled parallel when it is in motion. This bike design won first prize in a design competition arranged by the Taiwanese government earlier this year. Designers are Scott Shim, Ryan Lightbody and Matt Grossman. There is no mention of a price tag for this bike, and we have not heard anything of production, but we can always hope. Via Engadget.
