SMART STUFF #7, VOLUME 1. JULY 2005 |..1..2..3..4..5.....>![]() Inflatable fog horn or emergency siren. It is possibly meant to be an emergency signaling device for small boats, but the tip on the siren comes from Christine, who uses it to scare angry dogs on her daily bike trips. We cannot conclude where Christine lives, but she must have a serious dog problem in her neighborhood. We found her tip on one of our favorite sites of all time; Cool Tools. The siren, that looks to be using a re-cycled PET soft drink bottle, is pumped to pressure with a bicycle pump, called EcoBlast and USD 20:- on Amazon. ![]() Travel hanger. Hang your jacket, hang the lantern, hang your bag. There are always stuff that works better hanging than thrown on the ground. So if you are camping or just traveling you might find this travel hook useful. Made of brushed aluminum, it is small and light enough to bring most anywhere. At 2,5 x 40 x 156 mm (0.1 x 1.6 x 6.1 inches) and 20 g (0.7 oz) it will not be a burden. Nor will the prize, really. It is just SEK 89:- (about USD 11:-) at Resklar. 3 July 2005 ![]() Rotating cabinet big screen TV hider. It it possible (and understandable) that you want to show off that flat, fat plasma you just paid an arm and a leg for. But if you are seriously short on space, or really want to hide it away when you are not watching, maybe this piece of TV furniture can be something for you. The TV hider Gyre 6300 comes from Reversica, and this should really not be possible (se the pix above). To turn a TV that big should take more depth than the 18" (45 cm) offered by the cabinet. However, Reversica claims to have solved the problem with their "rotaxial" technology. What they have done to keep the cables from getting entangled they do not say, but we will trust them on that. Via Engadget. 2 July 2005 ![]() The best from our first six months. It is really an impossible job, but we have struggled to pick out the ten smartest things from all the products and ideas we have presented during our first six months of publishing Smart Stuff. You may not agree with our choice, but in that case you are more than welcome to mail us your own top-ten list. Here is ours. And remember, it is not ranked. That was too much... The peeler that peels fresh tomatoes. Yes, the serrated peeler peels fresh tomatoes. There is not much in this world that can do that, in fact we cannot think of any other device... This story was posted before we decided to write Smart Stuff in English as well as in Swedish. It was originally posted in January 2005, but we have re-posted it at the bottom of the English version of the February 2005 issue. The world's best oven glove. They may not look like much, but they are probably the world's best oven mitts. Why? Well, they are made of the same stuff that is used in protective clothing for racing drivers and fire fighters... Soft closing cabinet doors without all the usual expense. If you want those nice soft closing cupboard doors, but do not want to shell out for an entirely new kitchen, we have got news for you. Smart box for old newspapers. Most people with some environmental conscience have a pile of old newspapers in the hallway or in the kitchen. Not very practical, and not very chic. Now there is a both elegant and practical solution. Cheap work glove for garden and garage. There must be hundreds of jobs around the house when we wish we had a pair of gloves handy. But the cost of getting gloves for every place we might need them has held us back. Until now. The coffee fire log. This is the firewood that is made from old coffee grinds. It is not only smart, it is supposed to be eco friendly, too. The amazing rotating power outlets. In our house there must be thirty power outlets where we can not use all the sockets because a power adaptor blocks two sockets. Here is the answer... The bicycle pedal with built-in safety lighting. This is one of those inventions when we are tempted to bring out words like "brilliant" and it would probably be all right too, if the invention was not a light. A clever mini mandoline. When we reviewed the Microplane graters there was a part that was missing. This mini mandoline add-on makes an already great product even better. Moving furniture less the back pain. We do not understand the tech behind them, but we are happy moving our furniture around and will not be bothered with technicalities... 1 July 2005 THIS MONTH HAS MORE PAGES |..1..2..3..4..5.....> DEPARTMENTS | APPAREL | APPLIANCES | BAR | BBQ | BICYCLE | CAR | CHILDREN | COMPUTERS/TELECOM | CULTURE | DVD | EDIBLES | ENVIRONMENT | FLASHLIGHTS/TORCHES | FOOTWEAR | GARDEN | HOME | INTERNET | INVENTIONS A-Z | KITCHEN | KITCHEN FURNITURE | LEISURE | LINKS | META | MISC. | MOTOR CYCLES | OUTDOORS | PETS | PERSONAL CARE | PHOTOGRAPHY | READER'S CHOICE | SAFETY AND SECURITY | SERVICES | SMART STUFF aSTORE | SOLAR POWER | SOUND AND MUSIC | SWEDISH | THIRD WORLD | TRAVEL | TOOLS | VIDEO | WATER | WORK TIPS AND TRICKS | APPAREL | BAR AND DRINKS | BICYCLE | CAR AND DRIVING | COMPUTERS | CULTURE AND LEARNING | GARDENING | HOME | INTERNET | KITCHEN AND COOKING | OUTDOORS | PETS | TRAVEL | WORK AND BUSINESS Did you find the information on this site useful?
