Microplane foot file
Foot file from the carpenter's shop.
Microplane is famous for their woodworking tools and super sharp kitchen graters developed from the same basic idea. Now they have taken it to the next level, and are likely to revolutionize another segment. Here comes the Microplane foot file with 95 tiny bi-directional teeth. Like their other products, it works like a dream. My significant other has many years of experience with foot files and similar tools, and says this one is the best she has tried. Ever. We cannot say if it is out in shops yet, but once there, it will cost somewhere in the vicinity of SEK 250:- (USD 32:-). Maybe a little on the steep side for us guys, but M-L says she would not hesitate a second.

Ironman ironing board Ironman ironing board

Smart (and fun) ironing board.
To make it onto these pages a product needs to be smart. Or at least we need to think it is smart. But when this hurdle is passed, the product may be pretty or fun. Or both. We think the "Ironman" ironing board by Kiwi designer Shane Inder is both smart and fun. If it also looks good, we will let you decide. Ironing is never fun, but with this board it would be a little easier. And besides, we think ironing shirt arms and pants legs would be like the proverbial walk in the park. We like the hole in the Ironman's head for the power cable, too. Shane Inder designed the Ironman as a school project while studying at Unitec and now it is in production and for sale in New Zeeland and Australia for AUD 199:95 (that's about USD 155:-). Verbrugge paint can

Paint packaging with built in roller tray.
Dutch designer Jeroen Verbrugge at Delft design firm Flex/the InnovationLab was doing some painting at home. The actual rolling was fun, he thought, but filling the roller tray with paint and cleaning up the mess afterwards, was hell. He decided to try and find a better way. After a lot of experimenting he could file a patent for this clever invention. The lid of the plastic paint container has two parts where one can be folded up to form a roller tray. After finishing you just close the lid. No cleaning necessary (except the roller itself of course). The design was rewarded with a Design Distinction in ID Magazine's 51st Annual Design Review.

Plow & Hearth closet light Plow & Hearth closet light

A light for those dark spaces.
We know that there has been battery powered closet lights for years, but as far as we know they have always had a mechanical switch. And that switch always used to break sooner rather than later. This inventive light has a magnetic switch without moving parts, so we think it will work longer. It also has a LED light that is promised to last for 80.000 hours. If we are not mistaken that amounts to about nine years, providing the light stays on twenty-four seven. The light will cost you USD 16:95 at Plow & Hearth. Via Book of Joe.

Plow & Hearth pull-out clothes line

Pull-out clothes line.
This must be just the ticket for those who like the fresh smell of laundry that has been dried outside, but think those parasol hangers are to cumbersome. This invention will only give you one line, but on the other hand it is out of the way when it is not needed. Those parasol things are always in the way when you want to have some fun in the yard. Smart. The line and winder is made to take the rigors of outdoor duty, and has 1.2 meters of line (40 feet). We found it at Plow & Hearth for USD 19:95.
