World's smallest flashlightWorld's smallest flashlight

This must be the world's smallest flashlight.
It is tiny but it packs a pretty heavy punch. It is supposed to work for up to 600 hours on one battery. It is fastened right on top of an ordinary 9V battery and it has two levels of light intensity; one LED or two LED's. We found it on X-treme Geek for USD 24:95. Cheap? Naah, but it is small and kinda cool.

Javalog coffeegrounds firelog
Coffe grinds firewood.
This is the Java-Log, the firewood made from... no, it is not rain-forest but something much more mundane – used coffee-grinds. It is not only pretty smart, it is eco clever, too. And as far as we know the only product of it's kind, at least so far. The Java-log was invented in 1998 by Canadian Rod Sprules, tinkering with dried coffee-grinds and candle-wax in his fireplace (don't we all?) The mixture proved volatile enough to encourage him to make a bigger batch and make his friends try it out at their homes. Now Java-log has patents for their ecological "firewood" approved both in North America and Europe. According to Java-log, coffee has some 25 percent better energy content than wood, gives more light and is supposed to produce less soot and 14 percent less CO2 than wood

Magnet foot flashlight

Magnetic foot flashlight.
It attaches on any and every ferrous surface and gives you the chance to get in there with both hands. You will even get out of the light-in-mouth thing to get into the most inaccessible places. The light comes from a LED and the power from four 1,5 V batteries. We have seen it at X-treme Geek for USD 14:95 and at EFX for GBP 4:65 (about USD 8:-). Available in black or alu.

Cheap and handy work glove Cheap and handy work glove

Cheap work glove for garden and garage.
There are probably hundreds of small jobs and chores around the house when you wish you had a pair of work gloves. With the garden, the car, the bike, the boat. You name it. With this dirt cheap glove you can stash a pair just about anywhere you suspect you might need them. They are simple cotton gloves with a rubberized palm and fingers for grip enhancement. We now have pairs stored all over the place. They probably will not last for ever, but hey, they are SEK 10:- (USD 1:35) a pair at Clas Ohlson, so what if we have to get a new pair every now and then. Available in black or white in two sizes; his and hers.

Nina Yunkers' Köksräddaren kitchen tip book
More housekeeping tips and tricks.
The fact that Nina Yunkers' books on smart tips are among our favorites should not be a secret for our regular readers (If you just joined us, please check this link for our previous post on the subject). We were pleased to find this latest installment in her series in our local bookstore the other day. It is full of useful tips as usual, but this time focused on cooking and kitchen. We love that. This book will answer age old questions like: What to to with crisp bread turned soft and limp (very Swedish)? What do you do when the gravy is burned to the bottom of the pan? How can you tell if the avocados are ripe and the eggs are fresh? If you are anything like us (and read Swedish), this book is a must-have. Available in bookstores or via the publishers, Bokförlaget DN, at their home-page. SRP SEK 223:- (USD 31:-)

"Köksräddaren" by Nina Yunkers
Bokförlaget DN 2005. ISBN 91-7588-553-0. Cover art and illustrations: Villuendas + Gomez Estudi de disseny.
