SMART STUFF | ARCHIVE | GARDEN |..1..2..3..4..5.....>............................USEFUL TIPS AND TRICKS Welcome to the Smart Stuff garden and gardening section with some of the world's smartest stuff, tips and tricks for gardening and cultivation. Also browse the useful tips and tricks page for some clever and useful ideas. ![]() Light, foldable wheel barrow. It is actually called Better-Than-a-Barrow, so the guys at Herrington must obviously think it is not a wheel barrow. But we do not work at Herrington, so we are going to call it a wheel barrow anyway. Because that is what we think it is, albeit smarter than your average garden variety (pun intended) wheel barrow. The BTaB is easier to load with leaves and such. You just rake them in. Thanks to its low weight, you can also load up with more stuff (it can take up to 350 lbs or about 150 kg), and thanks to the foldablility you can store it hanging on the garage wall if you like. Other wheel barrows spend most of their off duty hours in the yard, quietly rusting away. The BTaB is available at Herrington for USD 130:-. 1 October 2005 ![]() Garden faucet cold protection cover. Now that fall is on the way (oh, yes), maybe this little invention can be worth considering. It is an insulated bag supposed to cover your outside faucet and keep it from freezing during winter. The bag has a weatherproofed outside and an Thinsulate lining just as some mitts and gloves do. The question is if not such a mitt would be just as effective? And besides, you might wonder how cold the part of the pipe that is just inside the wall gets, and how cold the inside of the bag gets after a week of sub-zero temperatures? But maybe it is worth trying. Available at Brookstone for USD 7:95. Via Book of Joe. 1 September 2005 ![]() Eco friendly walkway on-a-roll. Here is an eco friendly way to put in a garden path or walkway to the beach. The company selling these, Mr. Boardwalk, assures that the walkways are made from sustainable material and are not treated with arsenik or other chemicals. They also offer another product called Trex, which is a sort of composite of sawdust and recycled plastic shopping bags(!). The walkways are delivered ready to roll out over gravel, grass, sand or concrete. Via Treehugger. 22 July 2005 ![]() ![]() Cheap work glove for garden and garage. There are probably hundreds of small jobs and chores around the house when you would wish you had a pair of work gloves. With the garden, the car, the bike, the boat. You name it. With this dirt cheap glove you can stash a pair just about anywhere you suspect you might need them. They are simple cotton gloves with a rubberized palm and fingers for grip enhancement. We now have pairs stored all over the place. They probably will not last for ever, but hey, they are USD 1:35 a pair at Clas Ohlson, so what if we have to get a new pair every now and then. Available in black or white in two sizes; his and hers. 15 May 2005 ![]() Clever cooling dome food cover. It is called Cool Globe, and we think it is, too. Inside the top of the dome there is room for one of these freezable plastic bricks you use in cooler bags. And since colder air tends to sink in relation to warmer air, your salad, cake or whatever thats under the dome will be kept cool and fresh. Inventor Birgitta Folcker-Sundell recieved the City of Stockholms Inventors Scholarship for the Cool Globe as well as plenty of well earned attention both domestic and foreign. 8 March 2005 THIS SECTION HAS MORE PAGES |..1..2..3..4..5.....>.
