| SMART STUFF | ARCHIVE | FLASHLIGHTS |..<.....4..5..6.....> Welcome to the Smart Stuff flashlights section with some of the world's smartest gadgets, inventions and ideas in flashlights (torches) and other portable lighting. ![]() Button sized cam-phone photo light. This is the Phlash, a just released camera phone light that can either be attached to the phone itself or be hung on a lanyard from the phone. The Phlash is powered by a replaceable coin type lithium battery and is promised to deliver hundreds of flashes. From the release mail: "The patent-pending light-emitting array built into Phlash is unique and specifically engineered to provide full-frame lighting that’s even and color-balanced, eliminating hotspots and washouts. Designed for the close-up pictures usually taken with camera-phones, Phlash provides optimal performance at a distance of one meter, or about two arm’s lengths away." USD 19.99. More on the Phlash website. 24 March 2006 ![]() Work glove with work light. Working with small stuff in the dark is not exactly how we would choose to spend an evening, but every once in a while you do not have a choice. In those instances, this work glove; the Craftsman Illum-A-Glove with a built-in LED light could be just the thing. The light is placed between the thumb and forefinger to provide light just at the pinch of your grip. Expect to pay around USD 20:-. Via Uncrate. 19 March 2006 ![]() Magnetically charged night-light. Some find the darkness scary and the occasional walks to the bathroom an ordeal. In those cases the Guardian night-light can be just the thing. It charges magnetically on the little knob you put in the wall socket, and it will even light up automatically if there is a power outage. With a full charge it will provide some comfort for five hours. Designed by Stefane Barbeau. Available for USD 39:- at Modern Seed. Via A Whole Lotta Nothing. 13 March 2006 ![]() Instant pack light. They call it The Black Hole Light and how right they are. It will light up your bag, case or backpack automatically, as soon as you pull the zipper. How? Well, it has a magnetic switch that can sense if the switch and the light are too far apart (like 1/4 inch or so) and turn on the light. Just like magic. (Remember Arthur C. Clarke's "Any intelligence sufficiently advanced...") We could use this on like eighteen different bags right now. Bags with black interiors, stuffed with black stuff. Ever tried to separate black underwear from black t-shirts inside a pitch black bag? LED light, 3V replaceable battery. Only (?) USD 16:- a pop at Sahalie.
