| SMART STUFF | ARCHIVE | FLASHLIGHTS |..<.....2..3..4..5..6.....> Welcome to the Smart Stuff flashlights section with some of the world's smartest gadgets, inventions and ideas in flashlights (torches) and other portable lighting. ![]() Battery free dynamo flashlight. We have covered this before; electrical gadgets that works without batteries. The latest example is the $ 100 laptop, that might actually change the lives of innumerable kids in developing countries. Other smart stuff that uses similar technology are radios, cellphone chargers, and of course flashlights. If you are going to keep some emergency stuff at home, for instance for power outages, we would suggest that you go with the stuff that generates its own power. Like this flashlight. The principle is almost as old as time (the principle behind the dynamo was discovered by Michael Faraday 1831), but the application is new. Besides, the see-trough skin of this particular lamp makes it a little more fun. Available ready-built or as a kit at USD 12:95 at Lee Valley web shop. Via Unplugged Living. 21 November 2005 ![]() Cap bill work light. We were leafing through the latest issue of Svensk Jakt Magazine to-day when our gaze happened to fall upon an ad for this invention, hitherto unknown to us. But we do think it looks smart. The cap bill light is made to fit snugly underneath the bill of a baseball type cap, and thus shed light on whatever you are working with. Marketed to hunters, fishermen and the likes, but we think it would suit just anybody who needs both hands. It is SEK 119:- (approx. USD 15:-) at Engelson's web store 26 October 2005 ![]() Electric lock defroster. We will soon be there again, do not think otherwise. Today is September 13 and frost is not far away. Maybe you should prepare for the cold by finding that ice scraper, brush, long-johns and maybe think of getting one of these little things. Today's smart invention is a key ring with three tools for the modern motorist. First you have the tyre pressure gauge, then the torch and (here comes the best part) the electric lock heater. Pretty clever. We can remember several occasions when we could have used one of these. Just do not forget to spray some anti-freeze into the locks after opening, or else they will freeze up again. The thing is EUR 7:23 (USD 8:80) at Do Become. 13 September 2005 ![]() The world's smallest flashlight has a brother. A while ago we reported on what we considered to be the world's smallest flashlight. We could not really imagine a smaller unit than the light that was roughly a third of an ordinary 9V battery i size. and we thought is was crazy smart. The only bad news was the price of USD 24:-. It seems someone else loved that little light, too, because now there is a competitor. It is called Pac Lite and is just as small, has a luminescent top, and it is (of course) a little less expensive. On the other hand the newcomer seems to lag behind in energy conservation. It only gives some 20+ hours of light from a battery, while the old hand cranks out 75. The new kid is GBP 9:99 (ca USD 18:-) at I Want One Of Those. 8 September 2005 THIS DEPARTMENT HAS MORE PAGES |..<.....2..3..4..5..6.....> DEPARTMENTS | APPAREL | APPLIANCES | BAR | BBQ | BICYCLE | CAR | CHILDREN | COMPUTERS/TELECOM | CULTURE | DVD | EDIBLES | ENVIRONMENT | FLASHLIGHTS/TORCHES | FOOTWEAR | GARDEN | HOME | INTERNET | INVENTIONS A-Z | KITCHEN | KITCHEN FURNITURE | LEISURE | LINKS | META | MISC. | MOTOR CYCLES | OUTDOORS | PETS | PERSONAL CARE | PHOTOGRAPHY | READER'S CHOICE | SAFETY AND SECURITY | SERVICES | SMART STUFF aSTORE | SOLAR POWER | SOUND AND MUSIC | SWEDISH | THIRD WORLD | TRAVEL | TOOLS | VIDEO | WATER | WORK TIPS AND TRICKS | APPAREL | BAR AND DRINKS | BICYCLE | CAR AND DRIVING | COMPUTERS | CULTURE AND LEARNING | GARDENING | HOME | INTERNET | KITCHEN AND COOKING | OUTDOORS | PETS | TRAVEL | WORK AND BUSINESS Did you find the information on this site useful?
