| SMART STUFF | ARCHIVE | BAR |..<.....3..4..5..6..7.....>.............................USEFUL TIPS AND TRICKS Welcome to the Smart Stuff bar and drinks section with some of the world's smartest gadgets, inventions and ideas for bar and entertaining. Also browse the Useful tips and tricks page for some clever and useful ideas. ![]() Wine bottle cooling staff. This is something we've never seen before. That does not mean this idea is new, although that may well be the case, it just means we've never seen it before. But to the point. The cooling staff (A) is frozen in the freezer inside its protective cover (B). When the frozen staff (A) is inserted into a bottle of (white) wine it chills the wine without diluting it. The O-rings make sure there's a tight fit. While the cooling staff is in the bottle of wine, you may serve chilled (white) wine by removing the bottle stop (C). The cooling staff comes from Leopold and according to distributor Frelina Pring at Formex recently, this is supposed to work better than external wine coolers. 6 September 2006 ![]() Bar style stemware hanger. This is one of our favorite ideas; an invention that lets us use unused space. We all have too little room and too much stuff, right? With this stemware holder, or hanger, you can free up a lot of room inside the kitchen cupboards by hanging your stemware under the cabinets. You get a Chromed version of the glass hanger with room for 12 glasses for USD 9:99 on Amazon. The idea is also executed in clear acrylic. That version is a little cheaper at USD 7:99, also on Amazon. There are also other models with room for more or fewer glasses available. 30 August 2006 ![]() Make your own ice shot glasses. A Swedish snaps (that is a shot of alcohol with your meal) should, at least in our opinion, be ice cold. Anything warmer that almost freezing is luke warm, and quite useless as snaps. In fact, we keep our snaps bottle in the freezer prior to consumption, which takes it to the right temperature over night. Furthermore, we stubbornly defend this position in spite of the experts, who claim that alcohol, like most other things, taste more when warm. They are probably right, too, but we prefer our snaps without any flavor at all. So here is an idea to take the traditional Midsummer luncheon to the next level. Ice snaps glasses. Can't get much colder than that. Besides, since the glasses are melting, snaps consumption must be quite fast, which should enhance table conversation. This snaps glass ice tray comes from Exit 9, but they are also on Amazon for USD 10:-. Via Fresh Trend. 19 June 2006 ![]() Biodegradable cup made of corn. We have written a previous post on the Biota water company, who started distributing their product in a corn based biodegradable bottle back in 2004. Now we have found the matching cups and mugs. They are called BioWare and comes from Finnish packaging company Huhtamäki. The mugs and other packaging are made using a material called NatureWorks PLA from Cargill Dow. Granted they can not be used for hot liquids and foods, but on the other hand they can be composted and they are supposed to be completely dissolved after a little over two months in an industrial composting plant. If you chuck the cup in the park (don't!) it takes longer, but eventually it is gone from there, too, unlike the wretched plastic cups. 28 April 2006 ![]() Clip-on towel hanger. We are not all meant to be tailors. Some of us are all needles when it comes to sowing, if you pardon the expression. Sometimes this has even been literally true, at least as far as our hands were concerned. For those occasions, this little invention could prove to be just the ticket. It is called Clip N Loop and it is just that. A loop with a clip to attach it to the corner of any towel. Instant hanger. And no bloodshed. Just push an hang. USD 4:- (approx. SEK 30:-) for five at Miles Kimball. 22 February 2006 THIS DEPARTMENT HAS MORE PAGES |..<.....3..4..5..6..7.....> DEPARTMENTS | APPAREL | APPLIANCES | BAR | BBQ | BICYCLE | CAR | CHILDREN | COMPUTERS/TELECOM | CULTURE | DVD | EDIBLES | ENVIRONMENT | FLASHLIGHTS/TORCHES | FOOTWEAR | GARDEN | HOME | INTERNET | INVENTIONS A-Z | KITCHEN | KITCHEN FURNITURE | LEISURE | LINKS | META | MISC. | MOTOR CYCLES | OUTDOORS | PETS | PERSONAL CARE | PHOTOGRAPHY | READER'S CHOICE | SAFETY AND SECURITY | SERVICES | SMART STUFF aSTORE | SOLAR POWER | SOUND AND MUSIC | SWEDISH | THIRD WORLD | TRAVEL | TOOLS | VIDEO | WATER | WORK TIPS AND TRICKS | APPAREL | BAR AND DRINKS | BICYCLE | CAR AND DRIVING | COMPUTERS | CULTURE AND LEARNING | GARDENING | HOME | INTERNET | KITCHEN AND COOKING | OUTDOORS | PETS | TRAVEL | WORK AND BUSINESS Did you find the information on this site useful?
